Chipboard Lover

Oh yes, I can admit it! I am a chipboard lover! If it was an addiction, I would most definitely be a junkie!!! So today I thought I would share with you just a few of my favorite things to do with chipboard by sharing some newer, some older and some never before shared projects!!

Let's start with something semi-Christmasy! Haha! If I had to design a stocking that fit my personality, this would have to be it! A little naughty, a little nice, a little girly, but with a whole lot of attitude!! I cut this stocking out of chipboard. I then inked it with some distress ink and then dry embossed it using my cuttlebug. I then took a darker distress ink and went back over the edges and embossing. I then added a top to my stocking with a punched edge and then did some stitching on the top and along the toe of the stocking! Of course, had to add a little Prima bling!! But then to add some extra fun, I took an old piece of canvas and used a Greeting Farm stamp to stamp on the canvas. Frayed the edges a little, colored her with my copics and attached her to my stocking!! How fun! A Jenni Bowlin pin just to bring it all together!

So, yes, of course on this layout you can see the chipboard gears! Simple enough right? I cut them using the Tim Holtz die on black and white chipboard. But the little fun part of these . . . if you look real closely at the background, you will also see a gear design! Nope, it's not the paper. I laid out the gears underneath the white cardstock. I then used a pencil to lightly rub over the chipboard gears to make the imprint of gears! They did double duty on this layout!
Another thing I love about chipboard is that you can always use it raw. A lot of times I will glimmer mist or completely ink the chipboard. On this card though, I chose to dry emboss the chipboard. I then rounded the corners and took some distress ink around the edges and over the embossing. Super easy and yet classy!

Well, don't forget the chipboard that is ready to go when you buy it! The flourishes on this layout are by Bo Bunny and they are self adhesive! Pull off the back and stick on! Perfect right! The color of these can still be changed but I chose to use them in the natural bought color this time! hehe! However, the journaling frame is a Technique Tuesday tile that was white. I used again . . . distress ink to make it the color I needed to match the other flourishes. Layed it over my journaling to bring the focus of what I had to say on this layout . . . which happened to be what I love about a fall day!
The flowers and leaves were something new for me on this Picking Dandelions layout. I took plain chipboard and inked it with different colors of distress inks. The large yellow flower was painted with Distress Crackle Paint. I then painted over the flowers and leaves with Rock Candy Crackle Paint! Heat it up with a heat gun and watch the cracks show up! I then added some yellow stickles to the yellow flower and smeared it around for a very thin coat of glitter. Layer the flowers on top of each other, add a button to the center and you have a really cute flower!

I made this photo tray for a girlfriend! I used the Bo Bunny Timeless collection and loved how it turned out! These are pictures of her kids that her niece had taken! I inked the chipboard letters to match the papers. I then added some glimmer mist to the letters to add some . . . uh, well, GLIMMER! hehe! The fence is a Tim Holtz die that I cut out of chipboard and then added some inking to to make it a little weathered. The gear was a Tim Holtz die (I have gotten my money out of that die! haha) that I used the metallic alcohol inks on. I then distressed it with a sanding grip and went back over with some distress stain! Chipboard is NOT just for layouts!!! :)

This is one of my all time fave layouts!!! Again, Tim Holtz die to cut the gears. I then glimmer misted paper to put in the background of the gears. Layered the gears and then added some metal gear embellishments.
But don't forget one of the easiest ways to make a chipboard embellishment match the project you are working on . . . adhere paper to it! That is what I did with this heart tag! I adhered the paper to the top of the chipboard heart. I then sanded the edges to get rid of any access paper. A little distress ink to highlight the edges and tada . . . quick easy tag for a gift!

And now a layout using the Bo Bunny Timeless collection that I also used on the photo tray! I have never been much of a "vintage" scrapper but this collection does the work for you! Added some jute to the chipboard key that was included in the collection and popdotted it over the keyhole chipboard embellishment. Added some flowers around the chipboard flourish. But could I leave it at that? Of course not! I then took a chipboard heart and inked it up to match the layout and then it was complete!

I love the look of raw chipboard and this was just another easy was to change it up but yet still have the raw color behind it. On the puzzle piece, I used a background stamp to stamp on the puzzle piece. Since distress inks also function as embossing inks, I stamped the background stamp onto it, poured on the clear embossing powder and then used my heat gun to finish it off. A little distress ink around the edges to pick up the color of the stamp and I have a great embellishment to add to my page!

So, there are just a few reasons that I love to play with chipboard and to add it to so many of my crafting projects! Check back next weekend and you will get to see the teacher gifts that I am making using old scrabble letters and of course . . . CHIPBOARD!!!!

Until then, thanks for checking in and hope you learned some new ways to get crafty!

Rebel Rocker . . . Nov IIG Challenge

Hey all!!! Wanted to make sure you are checking out the monthly challenges over at If It's Groovy!! www.ifitsgroovy.blogspot.com This months challenge is to scrap your style!

Here is my Rebel Rocker layout that I made for the challenge! I love to distress and rip and tear and ink things up!!! I also love using skulls and layering papers! Hey, I have a house full of testosterone so what else would you expect???

This layout was made using Tim Holtz papers, Rock Princess Cricut cartridge for the title and skull. Used some Timmy distress inks to color what was a cream colored star and journaling tag. Added some staples and a few eyelets with some jute through and all done!

Hope you enjoy! Now head your butt over to IIG and upload your style layout for a chance to win a great prize from Groovy Deb!!!

Thanks for looking because I love to share! :) ~ Heather

Estranged?

I have become estranged! Not in the way most people think, but instead from my blog. I am so sorry!!! I have been busy with life in general, but I promise to be better!!!!

So in the time that I have been missing, I have still been creating!!! This is a canvas I made for my girlfriend (who is very musically inclined, unlike me!) for her birthday. Had the perfect frame for it too! Until I got it done that it! Then I hated the frame that I was going to put it in. Instead I chose to put it in this old beat up wooden frame . . . and I really felt it suited much more!

I made this layout using Bo Bunny's Timeless Collection, which I LOVE!!! I am not normally a vintage scrapper but was very happy with the way this layout of my hubby and his father turned out!

I did this layout for a challenge over at If It's Groovy! The challenge was to scrap about our hometown. This is the town that I grew up in . . . Fairmount, Indiana . . . hometown of James Dean and Jim Davis, creator of Garfield! Each numbered strip has a reason why you should visit this town!

Ok, now that I have made my promise to be less estranged, I guess I better follow through!!! Hope you have a scrappy day ~ Heather

1st Day of Kindergarten

So, today was the day . . . my babies started kindergarten! Not an easy day for mom and dad! They were so excited . . . until they got there then the nerves kicked in! But they did great! What great little men we are raising!

Just to clarify . . . I did NOT make them dress alike. Granted, they do have to wear school uniforms but I DID give them the choice of color of shirt they wanted to wear and they all chose the navy blue!!

Carter, Grant and Jackson . . . time to head off to 1st day of school!

Jackson wants you to check out his cool new shoes!
Grant is sooooo excited! All I could get were crazy smiles from him!

Carter is strutting his stuff . . . and his new haircut!

My 3 little men are now in school!

And I am now learning what a stay-at-home mom feels like when all the kids are gone to school! I have got dinner in the crockpot, floors swept, laundry going, dishwasher unloaded and loaded and cookies baking in the oven for an after-school snack! Might even get some scrappy time in!!! I could get used to this . . . if I didn't have to go back to work tomorrow! Boohoo!!!

PS . . . Guess who got to lick the beaters from the cookie dough? That's right! ME!!! I think that's about the 1st time in the last 12 years that I have got to do that without sharing! hahaha

A sketch for fun . . .

When I have a few free minutes and can't get to my scraproom, I sketch! I draw the lo's that are in my head! I then start to think of the papers and pics that would go with it. This way, when I do get to my scraproom, I am ready to get started and can hopefully crank out a few lo's in a short amount of time!

So, have a little fun and see what you can do with this sketch! Please leave me a link to your layout if you do use it! I would love to see what you create!

Tomorrow is Friday!!! Hope you are able to get some scrappy time this weekend!! I sure plan to! ~ Heather

Friends make our hearts sing!

On my layout "Friends make your heart SING", the music notes were a touch that I just had to have. Though I may not be musical, my friend Shelly is the praise team leader at our church. I loved how the distressing and masking and layering turned out. If you look close, you may even see some hidden music notes that I cut using the cricut and placed inside.

Here's the story: Shelly and I were 2 years apart at the same small Christian university, lived in the same dorm and never knew each other while we were there. It wasn't until many years later when Shane and I started attending the church we currently go to that we met Assistant Pastor Jim and his wife, the Praise Team Leader, Shelly that we discovered our alike past! Shane now plays guitar with the Praise Team.

She is such an amazing friend to me now that I only wish that we would have met back in the college days so we could have had an additional 14 years of friendship . . . but God's plans aren't ours and He chose when to bring us together!

Been hanging out over at www.tallyscrapper.com quite a bit! Even purchased their June kit! Received it today and I am in love!!! Great kit - lots of Jenni Bowlin (which makes me very happy!) and Studio Calico! Can't wait to get busy scrapping with the kit!

And some other news . . . the DT over at www.ifitsgroovy.blogspot.com has been very busy producing lots of projects using Raisin Boat stamps, a fantastic sponsor!! Be sure to check out the blog for an interview today and lots of new projects by the DT debuting tomorrow!!

Till later, Heather

Are you up to the challenge?

Have you been over to www.ifitsgroovy.blogspot.com yet this month? We have a new challenge!! You need to check it out! You take a quiz to find out what your color is. Next, you do a monochromatic layout based upon your quiz results!!! Here is mine! As you will see, my color was green!

I chose to use Basic Grey papers and sticker diecuts. The title letters are AC Thickers. The journaling box is by Making Memories. Prima bling and flower of course. The butterfly is by Petaloo (I think).

My title is based on Christian artist Francesca Battistelli's song, "Free to Be Me". The journaling are song lyrics from the song! It's one of my fave songs! It says "Cause I got a couple dents in my fender, got a couple rips in my jeans. Try to put the pieces together, but perfection is my enemy. On my own I'm so clumsy. But on Your shoulders I can see, I'm free to be me and You're free to be You. . . But You look at my heart and tell me that I've got all You seek."

Up to the challenge? Can't wait to see what you come up with!

You may find games, prizes, projects and challenges along the way! Perhaps you arrived here from Erica (http://www.allthingscrafty-erica.blogspot.com/) at her blog All Things Crafty. If so, fantastic! We celebrate this national holiday by scrapping today and into the weekend with projects that remind us of housework . . . or getting away from it! As you can see, I made a birdhouse to celebrate this holiday! Why a birdhouse you ask? What do birds have to do with housework? Well, let me tell you . . . I think "Housework is for the Birds!"

So here is my challenge to you . . .

1. Become a follower of the If It's Groovy Blog (http://www.ifitsgroovy.blogspot.com/).

2. Become a follower of my blog Scrapping The Guys (you are already here so why not!).

3. In keeping with the bird theme, create a project (card, layout, altered item, etc) that has a bird on it.

4. Leave me a comment on my blog stating which of the four of these you did or all and I will put you in for a RAK from me of some of my favorite things! (See below)

Do all 4 of the above and your name will be entered 4 times! Winner will be chosen randomly!

Thanks for visiting me!! Your next hippity hop will be on over to visit Laura at Let's Get Peachy! http://www.getpeachy.blogspot.com/. Hope you have a great time!

Are you ready?

Are you ready for the National No Housework Day Blog Hop? It all starts tomorrow!! There are 42 bloggers participating in this event! How cool is that? It is all starting over at If It's Groovy www.ifitsgroovy.blogspot.com! You have all weekend to play along so be sure to join us! But before tomorrow gets here, let me tell you what IIG has going on this month as a challenge! We were challenged to scrap a layout using titles from the works of Hans Christian Anderson. Be sure to go over to IIG to see the wonderful works of my fellow Design Team members and what they were able to create! Here is a look at mine . . . This layout was really healing for me. This is a picture of my grandfather. I miss him so much even though it has been 5 years. I wanted to honor him and so I created this lo for my boys. My grandfather, their great-grandfather, passed away about a month before they were born. The journaling includes my thoughts on that, how much he would have loved them and his and my relationship. There is also more journaling underneath (note pull tab) that tells about some of my favorite memories of him. This is probably the most "vintage" I have ever gotten for a layout. I cut the center out of the paper and then cut the corners at an angle. I then sprayed the paper with water and used a heat gun to roll the paper into place. I like how it made a "frame" not only for my picture but also for the embellishments. Items used: Papers, buttons and diecuts were by MME Stella Rose (my great-grandmothers name) collection. Prima bling, ribbon and flowers. Yellowed chipboard buttons are Graphic 45. Title letters are by Studio Calico. Lace paper is Little Yellow Bicycle that is used a stipple brush and distress ink to age.

Design Team Projects to share!

Well hello there!!! Thought I would stop by today and drop off a few layouts that I have been doing!!! These are all projects that I have done for Design Team over at If It's Groovy (IIG . . . www.ifitsgroovy.blogspot.com)! Make sure you stop over there and see all the great work! But don't just look , JOIN! Join in on the challenges going on to win some great prizes!

"My Love" - I had so much fun making this layout!!! This layout was made for the "Have a Heart" challenge going on IIG. As we all know by now, I love to distress!!! This lo was a scraplift from MandaK at sb.com! Wish I could take credit for it because I love it! I did make it my own but the inspiration was definitely from her!!! I loved the crinkling of paper! Also stamped some hearts on the paper but then didn't like as well as I thought so I sprayed some Smooch Spritz on it! First time I used it! Like it as much as I do Glimmer Mist!!

IIG DT was super lucky this month to have Nikki Sivils sponsor us! We got the wonderful "Sugar Cookie" collection!!! This pack was soooo fun to work with!! Lots of things included in it and I absolutely LOVED the canvas buttons (on "Love at 1st Meow) and the mini pink alphas!! These 2 lo's definitely got the Glimmer Mist treatment!!
Want to win your own "Sugar Cookie" collection? Blog hop on over to If It's Groovy to find out how!!!!
Will have more to bring to you soon!! I really have been busy scrapping, as well as playing with some new products! Alcohol inks, cricut vinyl to just name a couple! Will have some cool things to show you soon using those!!!
Thanks for stopping by!!

A little bit of everything . . .

Well, hello!!! Anybody missed me? Thought I would pop in for a quick hello!!! I really have been keeping busy!!! Lots of DT stuff that I can't show you yet but will as soon as they are available over at www.ifitsgroovy.blogspot.com!! We have a sponsor now so I can't wait for you to see the wonderful lo's that our DT has done with the product!!! No revealing it yet though!!! Soon, soon, soon!!!

Anyways, thought I would share a few cards that I have been making!!!

For a great friend that has been going through a rough time!!! God is only a prayer away! (Sorry, don't remember where this digital stamp came from!)

Made this card for my future BIL! He loves Harry Potter so this digital stamp from Bugaboo Stamps was perfect! My friend Penny suggested using Glossy Accents on his glasses! Loved how that turned out! Have I mentioned that I love my copics!!!!

A birthday card for my little sis!! Her fave color is green so had to incorporate while using this cute Greeting Farm stamp!

Had a friend send me a message on facebook the other day that she is in need of prayer! Has a lot going on in her life!! I love the Creeper Crew rubber stamps over at the Greeting Farm! They have such great attitude!!! This one is Thursday! Inside of the card says, "Some days we need just a little attitude and a lot of prayer!"
Thanks for stopping by and hoping to have lots more to show you soon!!! Going on my fave weekend scrappy retreat this coming weekend! Will hopefully get lots done and lots to share with you!!
Love and God Bless ~ Heather
